Beginning this month, Google will automatically disapprove ads that direct users to websites that have received manual actions under its Search Spam Policies. Google will notify affected advertisers via Search Console.
This means that if your site has received a manual action for violating search spam policies, your pages will get less organic traffic and less traffic from your ad campaigns as well.
Google's search spam policies address many issues, including:
- Cloaking
- Doorway abuse
- Expired domain abuse
- Hacked content
- Hidden text
- Link abuse
- Keyword stuffing
- Link spam, including buying or selling links
- Machine-generated traffic
- Malware
- Misleading functionality (e,g., bait and switch)
- Scaled content abuse, using AI or otherwise
- Scraping
- Malicious redirects
- Site reputation abuse
- Thin affiliation
- User-generated spam
- More...
What to do? Monitor Search Console, and clean up your act as necessary.
