Attorneys General of 11 states join DOJ antitrust suit
According to unnamed sources in the US DOJ, the agency is preparing a second antitrust suit against Google, this time over the company's alleged domination of the online ad market.
In October 2020, DOJ filed an antitrust suit against Google alleging that the company acts as an "illegal monopoly" in online search, by colluding with Facebook and other large tech companies to make its search engine an unremovable default on browsers, smartphones and other devices.
Two weeks after that action was filed, the Attorneys General of 11 states joined the suit.
It's believed the new suit will focus on how Google uses its dominance in ad auctions and technology to stifle competition and unfairly disadvantage advertisers and publishers.
It's probably not a coincidence that President Joe Biden has nominated Jonathan Kanter - who represented Yelp and Microsoft in earlier actions against Google - to head the Antitrust Division of DOJ.
Will Google face yet another antitrust suit? Watch this space.
