Industry feedback indicates a need for more time to evaluate and test the new Privacy Sandbox technologies
In a post on the Google Blog yesterday, Google VP/Privacy Sandbox Anthony Chavez announced that Google now plans to expand testing of the Sandbox APIs and delay the start of phase-out of third-party cookies in Chrome until the second half of 2024.
A year ago, because of reservations expressed about the proposed Sandbox technologies by the UK Competition and Markets Authority, Google had announced a target date of 31 October 2023 for completion of the transition away from third-party cookies.
Under the new plan, beginning in August 2022 the Privacy Sandbox trials will expand to millions of users globally. The new Privacy Sandbox APIs are expected to be launched and generally available in Chrome by 3Q2023.
